How the MVD15 differs from the MVD12
Both generators have the same 25 l tank, the same sound-insulating enclosure, 74 dB noise level, 340 g/kWh fuel consumption, 230 V / 400 V output and 1200 × 675 × 885 mm dimensions; the differences are power, engine and the consumption that follows from them.
| Parameter | MVD12 | MVD15 |
|---|---|---|
| Rated / maximum power | 11 / 12 kW | 14 / 15 kW |
| Recommended continuous load (75–80% of rated power) | 8.3–8.8 kW | 10.5–11.2 kW |
| Engine | 2V88, 912 cm³, 3600 rpm | 2V92, 997 cm³, 3000 rpm |
| Fuel use and 25 l tank run time at full rated load (calculated) | 4.45 l/h, about 5.6 h | 5.67 l/h, about 4.4 h |
| Continuous run time stated by the manufacturer (load not stated) | 12 h | 8 h |
| Weight / oil quantity | 253 kg / 2.8 l | 264 kg / 3.5 l |
Choose the MVD15 if your continuous load reaches about 10.5–11.2 kW or more: the MVD12 does not have enough power for that range. If 8.3–8.8 kW is enough, the Marsun MVD12 is lighter and runs longer on one tank at full load.
Diesel generator for home, farm or building site: what does 14 kW cover?
The MVD15 gives 14 kW of rated power (15 kW maximum) across three phases, and the manufacturer positions it for backup power for homes and farms, building sites, workshops and solar systems with energy storage. It also suits a garden plot, a campsite or an outdoor event. Allow for starting currents: induction loads such as pumps or compressors draw 2 to 5 times more current at the moment of start-up than when running.
How much diesel does a 14 kW generator use, and how long does a 25 l tank last?
At the full 14 kW rated load, the 25 l tank lasts roughly 4.4 hours. The manufacturer states 340 g/kWh, so 340 × 14 / 1000 = 4.76 kg of diesel per hour, or 4.76 / 0.84 ≈ 5.67 l/h, and 25 / 5.67 ≈ 4.4 h. This is an indicative calculation.
The manufacturer quotes 8 hours of continuous running but does not say at what load. In practice the lower the load, the less fuel is burned per hour and the longer the tank lasts.
Diesel generator with ATS: how does automatic start work?
The MVD15 has a factory Two-Wire Switch port, a dry (voltage-free) contact. A hybrid inverter or an ATS cabinet uses this simple two-wire connection to start and stop the generator automatically, with no one on site.
- With a hybrid or off-grid inverter, the generator connects to the inverter’s generator input and the inverter decides when it needs help. When solar production is too low and the battery is depleted, the generator takes over the loads and charges the batteries.
- In a system with an inverter, a separate ATS cabinet is not needed.
- At a site without solar panels, an ATS cabinet monitors the grid and starts the generator when the voltage drops. The MVD15 has no built-in ATS; the external ATS module is sold separately.
When the contact closes, the start sequence begins; when it opens, the engine shuts down safely. The manufacturer lists compatibility with Deye, Solis, Solplanet, GoodWe, Victron Energy and Sungrow hybrid inverters. Connection to the building’s wiring and ATS configuration must be done by a certified electrician.
How to connect a backup generator to a house
A generator may be connected to a building’s internal wiring only through a fixed connection that keeps the generator voltage out of the grid. The MVD15 has a port for an external ATS module, so changeover can be automated; the module is sold separately and the unit has no built-in ATS. ESO (Lithuanian grid operator) states:
“A generator may be connected to the internal electrical network of a whole building only by installing a fixed connection and measures that ensure the voltage produced by the generator is not fed into ESO’s networks… Entrust this work only to qualified specialists.”
On the same page ESO advises choosing the power according to your supply connection, and, when running single-phase loads from a three-phase generator, checking the single-phase limit, because the datasheet gives the total power of all three phases.
We handle it for you. We select the equipment for your site, deliver anywhere in Lithuania, install and connect it.
Can a three-phase generator run single-phase 230 V loads?
The manufacturer says that on ordinary three-phase generators only about a third of the total power is available from a single-phase socket. The MVD15 has equal power on each phase (Equal Power), so its output can be used through the three-phase 400 V socket and through a single-phase 230 V socket.
Running at 100 % power for long periods is not recommended. The ideal operating range for the engine and alternator is 75 to 80 % of rated power, which for the MVD15 is about 10.5 to 11.2 kW (a 25 % power reserve). If the system includes energy storage, add the power the generator will use to charge the batteries to the building’s demand.
What to know before buying
- Noise and enclosure. The generator comes in a sound-insulating enclosure, and the manufacturer states 74 dB. It is still a diesel engine, so plan the location, ventilation and fuel storage in advance.
- Weight and dimensions. The MVD15 weighs 264 kg and measures 1200 × 675 × 885 mm.
- Oil. The generator is delivered without engine oil. Before the first start, fill in 3.5 l of 15W-40.
- Fuel. Diesel. This model has no heated fuel unit, no automatic shutdown at 10 % fuel and no Modbus monitoring.
- Protection. Protection against running without load and against overpressure, an overcurrent circuit breaker, AVR voltage regulation, and a frequency and voltage indicator.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the Marsun MVD15 run on a full tank?
The manufacturer states 8 hours of continuous running with the 25 l tank but does not specify the load. Our indicative calculation at the full 14 kW load is about 4.4 hours, because consumption is then about 5.67 l/h.
How much fuel does the MVD15 generator use?
The manufacturer states 340 g/kWh. At a 14 kW load that is about 4.76 kg, or 5.67 l of diesel, per hour. At a lower load, hourly consumption is lower.
Does the Marsun MVD15 have ATS?
No, the MVD15 has no built-in ATS, but it has a Two-Wire Switch port for an external ATS module sold separately. In a system with a hybrid inverter, a separate ATS is not needed.
Which inverters is the MVD15 compatible with?
The manufacturer lists Deye, Solis, Solplanet, GoodWe, Victron Energy and Sungrow hybrid inverters. Automatic start runs through the Two-Wire Switch port, and Hybrid Energy works out the exact wiring for your inverter model.
Can the MVD15 be plugged straight into the house panel?
Not directly. The MVD15 may be connected to a building’s wiring only through a fixed connection with protection that keeps the voltage out of the ESO grid, and only qualified specialists should do it. Feeding the house by plugging the generator into a socket is dangerous.
Is a 14 kW generator like the MVD15 suitable for a home, farm or building site?
Yes. The manufacturer intends the MVD15 for backup power for homes and farms, building sites, workshops and solar systems with storage. Hybrid Energy sizes the power to your supply connection and actual load.
How loud is the MVD15?
The manufacturer states a noise level of 74 dB, and the generator comes in a sound-insulating enclosure. The measuring distance is not stated, so it is worth planning the location in advance.
How does the MVD15 differ from the MVD12?
The MVD15 is rated 14 kW and the MVD12 11 kW; the recommended continuous load is 10.5–11.2 kW and 8.3–8.8 kW respectively. The MVD15 weighs 264 kg and the MVD12 253 kg; both have a 25 l tank, but at full rated load it lasts about 4.4 h and about 5.6 h.
What is the optimal load for the MVD15?
About 10.5 to 11.2 kW, which is 75 to 80 % of rated power; running at 100 % for long periods is not recommended. Pumps and compressors draw 2 to 5 times more current when starting, and that must be allowed for too.
Does the MVD15 come with oil?
No. It is delivered without oil, and before the first start you need to fill in 3.5 l of 15W-40. Hybrid Energy delivers anywhere in Lithuania, installs and connects it.
