What is a 50 kW three-phase hybrid inverter with battery used for?

  • Raising self-consumption: surplus is stored in the battery and used in the evening.
  • Backup power during a grid outage: the backup output is 50 kW and the switchover takes under 10 ms.
  • Loads with a high starting current, such as air conditioners or water pumps: the backup output withstands 160 % of rated power for 2 s.
  • Peak shaving in self-use and generator modes.
  • Sites with a generator: the recommended generator power is 10–50 kW, and the inverter starts and stops the generator automatically.

Which batteries can I connect to the S6-EH3P50K-H?

The S6-EH3P50K-H connects to Li-ion batteries of 150–800 V with module capacities of 100–280 Ah. It has two independently controlled battery inputs of 70 A each, and the combined charge and discharge power is 55 kW. Communication with the battery runs over CAN or RS485. We select the specific battery model from the manufacturer’s compatibility list.

How much PV power can I connect to a 50 kW hybrid inverter?

The maximum usable PV power is 96 kW, and the recommended array size is up to 100 kW. That is roughly 1.9 times the 50 kW rated power, so the inverter can run at full power for longer. Inputs: 4 MPPTs, up to 8 strings, up to 18 kW and 40 A per MPPT, and a maximum input voltage of 1000 V. Up to 6 inverters can be connected in parallel.

Why choose a hybrid inverter instead of a standard grid-tied one?

A hybrid inverter can not only export surplus energy to the grid but also keep it for yourself. ESO (Lithuanian grid operator) states:

“Part of the surplus electricity generated can be stored in an energy storage device and used in the evening.”

ESO — Energy storage devices

ESO also notes on the same page that a storage system reduces the power fed into the distribution grid, so in some cases a larger power plant can be connected than grid limits alone would allow.

What to know before buying

  • AFCI and DC switch: the manufacturer lists both as optional, so we check the configuration before the order.
  • Installation: the inverter weighs 73 kg, measures 530 × 880 × 290 mm and is rated IP66.
  • Noise: under 65 dB(A), with smart fan cooling.
  • Monitoring: 7-inch display, Bluetooth and SolisCloud; TOU control allows six time settings.
  • Warranty: the manufacturer gives 5 years, extendable to 20 years.
