How the MHD80 differs from the MHD100 and MHD250
All three models have liquid cooling, a built-in ATS, a Two-Wire Switch connection, Modbus monitoring, 1500 rpm and a 72 dB noise level. They differ in power, engine, tank size and weight:
| Parameter | MHD80 | MHD100 | MHD250 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rated / maximum power | 80 / 88 kW | 100 / 110 kW | 250 / 280 kW |
| Rated voltage | 230 V / 400 V | 230 V / 400 V | 400 V |
| Recommended continuous load (75 to 80%) | 60 to 64 kW | 75 to 80 kW | 187.5 to 200 kW |
| Engine displacement | 4800 cm³ | 6900 cm³ | 10,300 cm³ |
| Fuel tank / running time stated by the manufacturer | 120 l / 8 h | 160 l / 8 h | 1000 l / about 24 h |
| Weight / dimensions (L × W × H) | 1150 kg / 2600 × 1100 × 1500 mm | 1300 kg / 2600 × 1100 × 1500 mm | 2700 kg / 3600 × 1300 × 2000 mm |
Choose the MHD80 if the continuous load stays within 60 to 64 kW: it is the lightest model (1150 kg) with the smallest tank (120 l). For a larger load, look at the MHD100: 100 kW, a recommended continuous load of 75 to 80 kW and a 160 l tank; the manufacturer gives the same dimensions (2600 × 1100 × 1500 mm), with a weight of 1300 kg. The MHD250 (250 kW, 1000 l tank, about 24 h, 2700 kg) is meant for much larger loads.
80 kW three-phase diesel generator: what is it used for?
The MHD80 is intended for backup power for homes and farms, building sites, solar systems with an energy storage battery, server rooms and other critical systems, and as the main source in an off-grid system. Of the three models, choose it when the continuous load stays within 60 to 64 kW and lower weight (1150 kg) matters.
How much fuel does the MHD80 use and how long does a full tank last?
The manufacturer states fuel consumption of less than 205 g/kWh. At the full 80 kW rated load that is 205 × 80 / 1000 = 16.4 kg of diesel per hour, or 16.4 / 0.84 ≈ 19.5 l/h. At that rate the 120 l tank lasts about 6.1 hours (120 / 19.5). This is an approximate calculation based on the manufacturer’s maximum consumption figure.
The manufacturer states continuous running time as 8 hours. The real figure depends on the load: the lower the load, the less fuel is used per hour. If you need to run longer without refuelling, you can choose an additional fuel tank.
Diesel generator with ATS and automatic start from a hybrid inverter
The MHD80 has a built-in ATS and a factory Two-Wire Switch connection (a dry, potential-free contact), so the generator can start and stop on its own without you doing anything.
- At a site without solar panels, the ATS monitors the grid: when the voltage drops out it starts the generator and switches the supply over, and when the grid returns it hands the supply back and stops the engine.
- With a hybrid or off-grid inverter, the generator connects to the inverter’s generator input and the inverter decides when it needs the generator’s help.
- When the energy storage battery is depleted, the inverter sends a signal to the Two-Wire Switch connection and the generator takes over supplying the loads and charging the batteries.
When the contact closes, the start procedure begins, and when it opens, the engine shuts down safely. The manufacturer states compatibility with Deye, Solis, Solplanet, GoodWe, Victron Energy and Sungrow hybrid inverters. Operating parameters can be monitored remotely over Modbus without going to the unit. Connection to the building’s wiring and ATS configuration must be done by a certified electrician.
How do you connect a backup generator to a house?
The MHD80 connects to the site’s internal wiring through a fixed connection, and a certified electrician configures the ATS. ESO (Lithuanian grid operator) states, in its recommendations for installing a backup source:
“A generator may be connected to the internal electrical network of a whole building only by installing a fixed connection and measures that ensure the voltage produced by the generator is not fed into ESO’s networks… Entrust this work only to qualified specialists.”
ESO also advises choosing the power according to your existing connection capacity, and when connecting single-phase loads to a three-phase generator, taking the single-phase limit into account, because the datasheet gives the combined power of all three phases.
We handle it for you. We select the equipment for your site, deliver anywhere in Lithuania, install and connect it.
Three-phase 230 V / 400 V power: how to spread the load
The MHD80 supplies both three-phase 400 V and single-phase 230 V loads, but it does not provide equal (full) power on a single phase. Spread single-phase loads as evenly as possible across all three phases and avoid large imbalance between them.
When planning the load, allow for starting currents: inductive loads such as pumps and compressors draw 2 to 5 times more current at the moment they start than when they run.
A generator should not run at a full 100% of its power for long. The recommended operating range for the engine and alternator is 75 to 80% of rated power, which for the MHD80 is about 60 to 64 kW (a 25% power reserve). If the system has an energy storage battery, add the power the generator will use to charge the batteries to the building’s demand.
What to know before buying
- Noise. The manufacturer states 72 dB. This is a diesel engine, so plan the location, ventilation and fuel storage in advance.
- Weight and dimensions. The MHD80 weighs 1150 kg and measures 2600 × 1100 × 1500 mm. Unloading and moving it needs suitable lifting equipment.
- Fuel tank. The tank holds 120 l and the manufacturer states 8 hours of continuous running; an additional fuel tank can be chosen as an option, and there is a heated fuel block and an additional fuel pump.
- Protections. Protection against running without load and against excess pressure, a circuit breaker against overcurrent, automatic shut-off when 10% of fuel is left, AVR voltage regulation and a frequency and voltage indicator.
- Inverter. If you already have a hybrid inverter, tell us the model and we will choose the connection solution.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the Marsun MHD80 run on a full tank?
The manufacturer states 8 hours of continuous running with the 120 l tank. Our approximate calculation at the full 80 kW load is about 6.1 hours, because consumption is then about 19.5 l/h.
How much fuel does the MHD80 generator use?
The manufacturer states less than 205 g/kWh; at an 80 kW load that is about 16.4 kg, or 19.5 l, of diesel per hour. At a lower load, consumption per hour is lower.
Does the Marsun MHD80 have an ATS?
Yes. The MHD80 has a built-in ATS: when the grid voltage drops out it starts the generator and switches the supply over, and when the grid returns it hands the supply back. You do not need to buy a separate ATS unit.
Which inverters is the MHD80 compatible with?
The manufacturer states Deye, Solis, Solplanet, GoodWe, Victron Energy and Sungrow hybrid inverters. Automatic start from the inverter runs through the Two-Wire Switch connection, and Hybrid Energy agrees the exact wiring against your inverter model.
Can the MHD80 be connected straight to the house’s distribution board?
Not directly. The MHD80 connects to a house or site network only through a fixed connection with protection that stops voltage reaching the ESO grid, and only qualified specialists may do it.
Is the 80 kW MHD80 generator suitable for a house, a farm or a building site?
Yes. The manufacturer intends the MHD80 for backup power for homes and farms, building sites, server rooms and as the main source in off-grid systems. Hybrid Energy chooses the power to match your connection capacity and real load.
How does the Marsun MHD80 differ from the MHD100 and MHD250?
The MHD80 is the lowest-power model: 80 kW (88 kW maximum), a 120 l tank and 1150 kg, against 100 kW and 160 l for the MHD100 and 250 kW and 1000 l for the MHD250. Hybrid Energy helps you choose the model for your load.
Can single-phase loads be connected to the MHD80?
Yes, the MHD80 also supplies single-phase 230 V loads, but it does not provide equal power on each phase, so they need to be spread evenly across all three phases.
What load is recommended for the MHD80?
About 60 to 64 kW, which is 75 to 80% of rated power; running at 100% for long is not recommended. Pumps and compressors draw 2 to 5 times more current when they start, and that needs to be allowed for too.
How much does the MHD80 weigh and how is it delivered?
The MHD80 weighs 1150 kg and measures 2600 × 1100 × 1500 mm, so unloading it needs lifting equipment. Hybrid Energy delivers anywhere in Lithuania, installs it and commissions it.
