Description

The Marsun MVB2PI is a 1.8 kW (2 kW maximum) single-phase inverter petrol generator, lighter (19 kg) and quieter (≤ 73 dB) than the more powerful MVB3.5PI. It suits a sustained load of up to about 1.35–1.44 kW (75–80% of rated power) and jobs where the generator has to be carried often; if you need 2.25–2.4 kW, choose the MVB3.5PI. Start is manual, the 4.3 l tank runs up to 3.5 hours at 100% load, and the manufacturer states compatibility with Deye, Solis, Solplanet, GoodWe, Victron Energy and Sungrow hybrid inverters.

How the MVB2PI differs from the MVB3.5PI

Both models are single-phase inverter generators with manual start, AVR and 3.5 hours of running at 100% load. They differ in power, tank size, weight and noise:

Parameter MVB2PI MVB3.5PI
Rated / maximum power 1.8 / 2 kW 3 / 3.5 kW
Sustained load (75–80% of rated) 1.35–1.44 kW 2.25–2.4 kW
Engine 79.7 cm³, 4800 rpm 163 cm³, 4400 rpm
Fuel tank capacity 4.3 l 6 l
Weight and dimensions 19 kg, 520 × 315 × 515 mm 22 kg, 560 × 380 × 585 mm
Noise level ≤ 73 dB ≤ 75 dB

Choose the MVB2PI if your sustained load stays within about 1.35–1.44 kW and the 19 kg weight and lower noise (≤ 73 dB) matter. Choose the Marsun MVB3.5PI if you need 3 kW of rated power, 2.25–2.4 kW of sustained load, or want to run the building and charge batteries at the same time. At 100% load the tank lasts the same time (3.5 hours), but the MVB3.5PI burns more fuel in that time: at rated load roughly 1.6 l/h against 0.96 l/h for the MVB2PI.

How much fuel does the MVB2PI use, and how long does it run on a full tank?

The manufacturer states plainly that on a full 4.3 l tank the MVB2PI runs for up to 3.5 hours at 100% load. Plan around this manufacturer figure rather than a calculation.

An indicative calculation from the table data: ≤ 395 g/kWh × 1.8 kW is about 0.71 kg of petrol per hour, or about 0.96 l/h (0.71 kg ÷ 0.74 kg/l). At that consumption the 4.3 l tank would last about 4.5 hours, but this is only a theoretical result, so the manufacturer’s 3.5 hours is the more reliable number. At lower loads it burns less fuel and the tank lasts longer.

Can you use the MVB2PI inverter generator with a hybrid inverter?

The manufacturer states compatibility with Deye, Solis, Solplanet, GoodWe, Victron Energy and Sungrow hybrid inverters. In a hybrid system, when the solar PV system produces too little and the battery runs down, the generator supplies the building’s appliances and charges the batteries.

Important: the MVB2PI has manual start, so it does not start itself on an inverter signal. You start the generator yourself, and if you need automatic start, choose a model with an electric starter and ATS.

How do I connect a backup generator to a house?

A generator must not be plugged straight into the house sockets. It may be connected to a site’s internal network only through a fixed connection with a grid–0–generator changeover switch, and a qualified electrician must do it. ESO (Lithuanian grid operator) states:

“A generator may be connected to the internal electrical network of a whole building only by installing a fixed connection and measures that ensure the voltage produced by the generator is not fed into ESO’s networks… Entrust this work only to qualified specialists.”

ESO — Recommendations for installing a backup power source

The same ESO guidance advises choosing the power according to your connection capacity and actual load.

We handle it for you. We select the equipment for your site, deliver anywhere in Lithuania, install and connect it, and bring it into service.

What load can you connect to a single-phase 1.8 kW generator?

The MVB2PI supplies only single-phase 230 V, and its full power comes from one phase. The total power of all connected appliances, including starting currents, must not exceed the 1.8 kW rated power.

Pumps, fridges and compressors draw 2 to 5 times more current at start-up than when running, so allow a margin for them. Running at 100% load for long periods is not recommended: the recommended operating range for the engine and generator is 75–80% of rated power, which for the MVB2PI is about 1.35–1.44 kW.

If the generator charges batteries, add the charging power to the building’s demand and multiply the result by 1.25. For the MVB2PI, the combined demand of the building and battery charging should stay within about 1.44 kW. Temperatures above 25 °C and high altitude can reduce the maximum power.

Thanks to inverter technology the generator supplies a clean sine wave, so it can power sensitive electronics such as laptops, desktop computers and precision instruments.

What to know before buying

  • Noise level is ≤ 73 dB. Choose the location with your neighbours in mind.
  • The generator weighs 19 kg and measures 520 × 315 × 515 mm, so it is easy to take to a garden, building site or campsite.
  • There is no ATS and no electric starter: starting is manual, by pulling the starter handle.
  • Fuel is clean unleaded petrol with an octane rating of at least 95; up to 10% ethanol is permitted. Do not mix petrol with oil.
  • The generator is supplied without oil: before the first start, fill 0.35 l of SAE 10W-30 oil. Change the oil for the first time after 5 hours of running, then every 50–100 hours or once a season, and check the air filter and spark plug every 50 hours.
  • Use outdoors only, leaving at least 1 m of free space on all sides, and not in rain or snow: exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Marsun MVB2PI run on a full tank?

The manufacturer states up to 3.5 hours of continuous running at 100% load, with a tank capacity of 4.3 l. At lower loads the tank lasts longer.

How much fuel does the MVB2PI generator use?

According to the manufacturer, no more than 395 g/kWh. At the full 1.8 kW load that is roughly 0.71 kg, or 0.96 l, of petrol per hour.

Does the MVB2PI have ATS and automatic start?

No, the MVB2PI is started manually and has no integrated automatic transfer switch (ATS). For automatic backup you need a model with an electric starter.

Which inverters is the MVB2PI compatible with?

The manufacturer states Deye, Solis, Solplanet, GoodWe, Victron Energy and Sungrow hybrid inverters. Hybrid Energy will work out the exact connection scheme for your system.

Can I connect the generator straight to my house fuse board?

No, only through a fixed connection with a changeover switch so that voltage does not reach ESO’s grid, and only by a qualified specialist. Hybrid Energy installs such a connection.

Is a 1.8 kW generator enough for a house, garden or building work?

Yes, the 1.8 kW rated Marsun MVB2PI suits the most important household appliances, a garden cabin, power tools on building jobs and camping.

What is the noise level of the MVB2PI?

The manufacturer states ≤ 73 dB. The generator is used outdoors only, with at least 1 m of free space around it.

How much single-phase load can I connect to the MVB2PI?

Up to 1.8 kW from one 230 V phase, including starting currents. For long-term running, about 1.35–1.44 kW (75–80% of rated power) is optimal.

How does the MVB2PI differ from the MVB3.5PI?

The MVB2PI has 1.8 kW of rated power, weighs 19 kg and is rated ≤ 73 dB, while the MVB3.5PI has 3 kW, 22 kg and ≤ 75 dB. The manufacturer states up to 3.5 hours of running at 100% load for both.

Does Hybrid Energy deliver and install the MVB2PI?

Yes, Hybrid Energy delivers the MVB2PI anywhere in Lithuania, selects the changeover solution, installs it and brings it into service. A consultation before purchase is free.
