What is a 10 kW three-phase hybrid inverter for?
The 10 kW three-phase HEC2-T10.0HR2-EU is for a home with solar panels and a battery, where you want to store solar energy and use it in the evening. It manages the flows between panels, battery and grid in one system, and you can monitor it in the APP.
- Homes with a three-phase supply and a solar PV system
- Hybrid inverter with battery: store solar energy by day and use it in the evening
- Backup power when the grid fails: 10,000 W EPS output
- Time-of-use tariffs: TOU scheduling with 6 time slots
How does a hybrid inverter with battery storage work?
A hybrid inverter can keep surplus solar energy in a battery instead of only sending it to the grid. ESO (Lithuanian grid operator) states:
“Part of the surplus electricity generated can be stored in an energy storage device and used in the evening.”
ESO adds that a storage system reduces the power fed into the distribution grid, so in some cases a larger solar PV system can be connected than grid limits alone would allow.
The HEC2-T10.0HR2-EU has three operating modes, which you choose in the APP:
- Self Use. The home loads are supplied first, then the battery is charged, and the rest goes to the grid. When there is not enough sun, the battery supplies power, then the grid.
- Back Up. The battery is kept for grid outages only; it is charged from the panels or from the grid.
- Peak Shaving (TOU). Charge and discharge times and power are set in the APP or on the website.
Which batteries can I connect to the HEC2-T10.0HR2-EU?
The HEC2-T10.0HR2-EU is made to expand the Midea Hiconics All-in-One system and connects only to Hiconics batteries and a BMS module, not to other manufacturers’ batteries. In the Hiconics HEC2-BHPxxr2 battery line the manufacturer lists:
- BHP100r2-EU: 2 modules, 10.2 kWh
- BHP150r2-EU: 3 modules, 15.3 kWh
- BHP200r2-EU: 4 modules, 20.4 kWh
A battery module is 50 Ah, and it communicates with the inverter over CAN or RS485. The battery voltage range at the inverter is 180–650 V.
Backup power during a power cut
When grid voltage disappears, the HEC2-T10.0HR2-EU switches to off-grid mode in under 20 ms and supplies up to 10,000 W (10,000 VA) through the EPS output. EPS voltage is 230/400 V and inrush current is 65 A. How many hours the house will run depends on the battery capacity you choose and the connected load, so work out in advance what you want to power.
Connection and installation
The manufacturer states that the modular design and quick connectors allow installation in under 20 minutes, with start-up taking 5 minutes. On the grid side a 10 mm² cable and a 40 A / 4P breaker are recommended; on the load side a 4 mm² cable and a 25 A / 4P breaker. The inverter weighs 52 kg and measures 800 × 525 × 160 mm. A separate breaker (IEC 60947) is also needed on the grid side, and the box contains 3 CTs, a WiFi dongle and a mounting bracket.
