What size generator do you need

Add up the power draw of your essential appliances (the heating boiler’s pump, fridge, lighting, water pump), and leave a margin for starting currents, especially for motors with a compressor or pump, whose inrush current can be several times the running load. For backup power at home, 6-15 kW is usually enough; for a larger farm or business with production equipment, plan for 20-90 kW.

Important: all our generators are three-phase

The Marsun generators in our catalog are built for a three-phase supply. If your home or property only has a single-phase connection, talk to an electrician before you buy; in some cases you’ll need to rework the distribution board or choose a different solution, such as a battery with a hybrid inverter. We don’t currently carry a single-phase diesel generator.

Manual or automatic start (ATS)

With a manual generator, you start it yourself when the power goes out. ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) switches your home’s power supply to the generator within seconds of a grid outage, and back again once the grid is restored, so you don’t need to be home. ATS units are compatible with either 6-15 kW or 20 kW generators, so confirm compatibility with your specific model.

What is AVR

AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) is a voltage stabilizer that keeps the output voltage steady as the load changes. Every Marsun generator we sell has AVR, which protects the connected household and electronic equipment from voltage fluctuations.
