What is a three-phase Modbus energy meter used for?

  • Solar installers
  • Monitoring energy consumption and generation
  • Integration with energy management systems (EMS) over Modbus RTU (RS485)
  • Controlling current and power peaks: demand intervals are programmable up to 60 min

What does an energy meter for a solar plant measure?

The SDM630-Modbus V3 (MID) measures voltage, frequency, current, power (kW, kVA, kVar) and energy (kWh, kVarh), including imported and exported energy. Active energy is class 1 to IEC 62053-21, voltage and current accuracy are 0.5% each, and response time is 1 s.

Does it need current transformers, and what current can it take?

This meter connects directly up to 100 A, so no current transformers are needed. Base current is 10 A, maximum 100 A, minimum 0.5 A, and starting current 0.4% Ib. If the current at your site is higher, we will choose a suitable solution.

Installation and conditions

The meter mounts on a DIN rail to DIN 43880 and measures 72 × 100 mm. Protection class IP51 is for indoor installation, operating temperature is -25 °C to +55 °C, and altitude is up to 2000 m above sea level. The case is made of self-extinguishing plastic UL94 V-0.
